Also includes several letters from Avery to author Erastus Dow Palmer.
Biographical/historical note Samuel P. Avery (1822-1904), was an art dealer and collector in Hartford, Connecticut. His son, Samuel P. Avery, Jr. (1847-1920), was an important donor to the Brooklyn Museum.
