Note "Double Enumeration is one of a series of mixed-media book sculptures addressing the idea of an open book fixed in a moment in time. For this piece I combined and transformed two discarded art reference works (E. Mayer's International Auction Records, Edition M, from 1986 and 1988). The repetitive numbered index cuts and bolted-down pages suggest a mute volume suffering from locked-in syndrome, unable to express the information trapped within."--Email from the artist, January 16, 2014.
"The front pages are heavy stock pages that were in the Mayer's volumes. Black spray paint, graphite and fixative have been applied to the paper surfaces. Two carriage bolts and seals lock the information inside the volume."
Created from two volumes withdrawn from the Brooklyn Museum Library.
Signed, "John Frederick Walker 2012".
Accompanied by two pieces of wood (9 x 31 x 2 cm.), painted black, to support the sculpture when on display.
