Condition history (a) Almost all of these recently uncovered frescoes are painted over still earlier frescoes, forming a veritable palimpsest.
Attribution history (a) Attributed to Italian School, Lombard - 2nd half 12th to 2nd half 13th c. by G. Natali, 1911. Appears to be by various artists, perhaps local, working on Byzantine models; (b) Italian School, Lombard - 13th c. by Toesca, 1912. Imitating the Byzantine manner. van Marle (1923) thinks that here the Byzantine characteristics are less evident; (d) Anonymous - 13th c. by Sansoni, 1939.
