Subject (a) Peter van Brugh Livingston died in 1868. He probably painted in Rome since the St. Peter's dome appears in the background; (b) Two books on the table, a bust, inkpot and a white quill. In the background a column under a drape and a bese of a statue. S. Peter's dome at the horizon; (c) P. van Brugh Livingston (1792-1868), diplomat, was the eldest son of Philip Livingston and Cornelia van Horn. Married the widow of Sir Patrick Houston; (d) Peter van Brugh Livingston married Harriet Croft, the widow of Sir Roderick Houston.
