Condition history (c) Now all that remains is the inscription of gold letters on a blue ground. Additional mosaics were still preserved.
Attribution history (a) Italian School, Roman - 2nd quarter 5th c. by Wilpert, 1917, dated to 422 to 432. Pontificate of Celestine I; (d) Attributed to Italian School, Roman - 2nd quarter 5th c. by Wilpert, 1864 to 1897, dated to 427 to 432. An inscription on the wall between these two figures places their execution in the time of Pope Celestine; (b,c) Italian School, Roman - 5th c., (b) by van Marle, 1923, (c) by Anthony, 1935; (f) Attributed to Italian School, Roman - 5th c. by van Marle, 1911.
Subject (c) The figures stand out on a gold ground. The one on the left, represents the "Ecclesia ex Circumcisione". The figure at the right, Ecclesia ex Gentibus; (d) Two figures of colossal stature symbolizing the churches of the Jews and Gentiles recall the Roman antique; (e) The inscription is metrical and attributed the name Pietro d'Illiria and of Celestine I who consecrated the church.
