Provenance (d) This is undoubtedly the Last Judgment panel described in Pastoral visit of 1660 on an altar in Convent of Sta. Maria in Campo Marzio, chapel right altar (Rome, Vat., Ottob. 2461, fol.339v.);
(d) S. Luigi dei Francesi, Rome;
(d) thence, 1871, to the Pinacoteca Vaticana (b and d) (on exhibition in 1936 and 1948) (256, Room 1) (a) discovered within the last few years in the store-room of the Vatican Gallery, Rome.

Condition history (d) Had been darkened, dirty and considerablty damaged. Well but not archeologically restored, 1934 to 1935.
Attribution history (a) Italian School, Roman - 13th c. by Wilhelm Paeseler, 1938. The unique representation of the Advent of the Lord in the upper row of figures, show the influence of the Venetian School; (d) Italian School, Roman - 1st quarter 13th c. by Garrison, 1949. Attributed in the Guida Breve, 1948 to Giovanni and Niccolò, painters of the Benedectine Roman School, 2nd half 11th century.
Subject (b) The inscription reads: "In clangore tubae surgunt de pulvere terrae Nicholaus, Iohannes pictores"; (d) The inscription right extremity of lower of two lines of inscription separating circle from base reads: "NICOLAVS IOHS PICTOR".
