Color notes (d) The colors of the Madonna's garment are rich and low against the gold background. She wears a greenish-blue mantle adged with gold.
Attribution history (b) Attributed to Italian School, Byzantine - 1st quarter 15th c. by Meiss, 1933, dated to circa 1400. It may have been painted outside of Italy; (c,d) Italian School, Sienese, by source. (c) Revealing Byzantine influence. (d) By some artist, possibly of the late 13th but more probably of the early 14th c., who was familiar with the works of Guido da Siena; (f) Italian School, Venetian - 13th c. by Richard Offner, 1943. Checklist of Paintings in the Permanent Collection of the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, 1941 states Sienese, 14th century.
