Color notes (f) The stippling in red and black to simulate pebbles on the beach is unique.
Attribution history (f) Circle of Lorenzo Monaco by F. Mason Perkins, 1925. Compare with the predella in "Coronation of the Virgin" in the next room; (e) School of Lorenzo Monaco by F. Mason Perkins, 1927. Distant from the master's manner, but Lorenzo's inspiration is clearly visible in the figure of the anchorites and in the landscape; (g) Manner of Lorenzo Monaco by F. Mason Perkins, 1911; (f) Italian School, Pisan by van Marle, 1925; (d) School of Pietro Lorenzetti by A. Venturi, 1908. Similar to the panel illustrating the hermit life at Campo Santo.
