Condition history	(a) The condition of the painting is very bad through overcleaning and paint loss through flaking.
Attribution history	(a) Italian School, Neapolitan - 2nd half 17th c. by E. Young, 1970. This painting has not stood up to comparison with signed works by Ruoppolo; (b) Italian School by S.E. Harrison, 1939; (c) Attributed to Giovan Battista Ruoppolo by Tony Ellis, 1962. This attribution was doubted by Benedict Nicolson.
