Provenance (a,b,c) Badia di S. Maria de Oleara, Capo d'Orso, Italy, (a) ceiling of upper chapel, (b) promontory of Montorso, gulf of salern. This church was founded in 973. There are remains of 11th c. frescoes.

Color notes (b) Virgin Orant, dressed in red tunic and blue veil, is standing between between two saints with pointed beards in the Lombard fashion. Figure of Christ between SS. John Baptist and Evangelist.
Attribution history (d) Attributed to Italian School, Campanese - late 11th to early 12th c. by Frick Art Reference Library, January 1934; (b) Anonymous - 11th c. by Bertaux, 1904. Because of the known history of the hermitage, founded in this century; (f) Anonymous - 8th c. by Salazaro, 1870. Attribution rejected by Bertaux.
Subject (a) The Annunciation, on the front wall of the upper chapel. Madonna praying with two saints, in the catacombs. S. Peter in the ground floor chapel. Three saints in the ceiling 2 saints on the wall.
