Attribution history Attibuted by the owner, prior to 1922, to Sir Joshua Reynolds. Attributed by Frank W. Bayley in 1925 to school of Kneller. According to Mr. Barker in 1939, one of the nine portraits definitely by Charles Bridges. According to Dr. J. Hall Pleasants, the picture resembles the work of Gustavus Hesselius at his best, but is not typical of Hesselius, and may have been painted in England.
