Provenance (c) Commissioned for the library of the original Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, located at 10 West Eighth Street, New York. The space later became the public reading room of the institution;
(d) the two panels of this section of the mural cycle are unlocated. (e) It is possible that they never were removed from the reading room and consequently were destroyed during the demolition of the building.
